Using Lister Hill's E-Books
This guide is meant to help you use Lister Hill's ebooks. You can find our ebooks through the catalog or by directly access our ebook providers' sites from the Lister Hill databases page. Because each providers policies and interface differs the tabs are broken into information on general use, downloading, printing, creating personal accounts, and mobile use. The following providers are covered in this guide.
Please contact the library using the chat box or email link to the right if you have questions.
Single User vs Multi User eBooks
Occasionally you will try to access a book and receive a message like this:
"The document you wish to access is currently being viewed by another user."
Many of our e-books are single-user editions. This means that if another library user is viewing the book you will have to wait until they close the book (or if they're inactive the book will time-out) in order to view the text. Some eBook providers allow multiple users to view a book at once. Access Medicine allows multiple users to view the same book at once. Our license with Access Medicine allows 10 simultaneous users for the entire resource. Clinical Key allows for unlimited simultaneous users.
Most ebook providers will not allow you to download entire ebooks but most will allow you to download some content, usually a certain number of pages. E-Book Collection from EBSCO is the only ebook provider at Lister Hill that currently allows you to download entire books for 1-7 days. Other providers, including ebrary and Access Medicine allow you to download sections or a specific number of pages. For more information on downloading ebooks and content please see the download sections under each providers tab.
